Wakefield, MA–  The 10th Annual Warrior Club Golf Tournament was held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts.  This year’s weather was picture perfect, and 118 golfers came out to the BG&T links in support of the WHS football program. After the birdies and bogeys were counted, the event raised nearly $23,000 for the program.

After a buffet lunch of hot dogs and sausages, onions, and peppers, golfers checked in with the event committee to receive their gift bags and have their group picture taken by Richard Karlen Photography. This year’s gift bag, sponsored by the Wakefield Co-Operative Bank, included: a Baseball Cap sponsored by The Savings Bank; a Golf-Towel sponsored by Keith’s Tree Service; a Sleeve of Nike Golf Balls sponsored by Nike and Chet Davis-’76; a golf shirt sponsored by Nardone, Inc. and Honey Dew Donuts;  a Golf Bag Tag, Sun Screen, and a Water Bottle sponsored by The Future of Dentistry; as well as an assortment of coupons and vouchers to local establishments.  For a complete list of Warrior Club sponsors, click here.

The tournament began with a shotgun start at 1:30pm.  As the golfers raced to their starting hole, the numerous contest, tee and cart sponsor signs could be seen  throughout the course. The par 3 holes included the Hole-in-One contest, sponsored by Matt Shevlin, and the Closest-to-the-Pin contest; while hole #8 included the Longest Drive contest, and hole #15 was the site for the 50/50 Raffle. Throughout the event, the beverage cart sponsored by Middlesex Construction Services made its way around the course.  Many golfers also stopped by the Justin Leo Marshall Memorial Putting Contest, sponsored by Metalcrafter’s Inc.

The 2014 Tournament Champion Team, 62, was Honey Dew Donuts, composed of Allen Roycroft, Jim Murphy, and Kurt Pappalardo.  In a tie-breaker, second place, 63, went to Nardone,  Inc., whose team members were Bill Nardone,  Frank Leone,  Mike Alden, and Bob Mahoney. The foursome of Cliff Perry, Kevin McCaul, Kevin Davis, Mike Maloney won third place honors, 64.  Other contest winners included: Women’s Longest Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin: Linda Calnan; Men’s Longest Drive: Keith Brennan; Men’s Closest-to-the Pin: Kevin Noonan. The 50/50 winner was Mark Jepson.


The golf wrapped up around 6pm and everyone headed to the Great Room to view the results of the Raffle drawings, participate in the silent auction, and enjoy a delicious banquet buffet.  Tournament chairmen Jim Joly closed out the event by thanking all the participants. He said, “I would like to personally thank all the business support and community support we receive this year.” He continued, “this tournament is as successful as it is because of the alumni. Each year you all come back to give back and for that we are grateful.”
