Wakefield, MA–The Wakefield High Athletic Department is deeply saddened by the news of the sudden passing of longtime Wakefield coach and former athlete, Bunty Thakkar.

Bunty was a 2001 graduate of Wakefield High School where he was a member of the football team as a free safety and tailback. After graduating high school, Bunty attended the University of New Hampshire where he graduated in 2005 with a degree in performing arts. He recently coached the freshman football team before becoming the dance team assistant coach.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM and funeral services will be private. Arrangements are being held at McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.

“Throughout his life, Bunty faced a constant onslaught of critical health challenges.  He met each and every one of these challenges head on while never losing his positive outlook on life.  Even through the darkest of times, Bunty always had a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye,” said head football coach Mike Boyages. “

“Although his life was cut short at such a young age, his positive impact on the lives of his athletes and fellow coaches at Wakefield High has been truly immeasurable. Bunty taught all of us to appreciate each and every day no matter what challenges life throws at you. The way he lived his life and the wisdom he instilled in all of us will never be forgotten. Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to his parents and his brother Saj,” Boyages reflected.

The Wakefield High School football program will be wearing the initials BT on their helmets the rest of the season in honor of a young man who taught them all so much.  The Warrior Club would like to extend our thanks to the Rich Manzi and The Sign Shop for graciously donating them to the program.
