Wakefield, MA–The Wakefield High School Cheerleading Team has had a very exciting season led by head coach Stephanie Frangules and Senior Captains Amy Berggren, Allie Kelly and Carly Mercurio. The team is about to compete in the State Championship Tournament for the first time in school history.
The girls recently competed at the Middlesex League Competition on November 3 at Stoneham High School. Wakefield came in 4th place with a score of 72.5. This score qualified Wakefield to move on to the North Regional Competition, which was held Sunday, November 14 at Woburn High School. The WHS cheerleaders had a great performance and placed 4th in Division 3 at the North Regional Competition with a score of 150.
The next day next day the team was told that they had received an at large bid to compete at the State Championships on Sunday, November 21st. This is the first time ever that Wakefield High School Cheerleading has been invited and competing at the MSSAA State Championship. Wakefield will be competing at the second section of Sunday’s competition, which starts at 1:30 at Woburn High School.
The girls are thrilled to have made it this far. In addition to Frangules, the team is coached by assistant coach, Monica Vitale. Coach Frangules recently said, “The hard work each girl has put into the team has paid off. We made it a point this year to work on individual goals and team goals and each practice we work on ways to achieve those goals. I would personally like to thank everyone who has supported us this exciting year. Myself and Coach Vitale are extremely proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of girls.”
