Coach Boyages Announces Pre-Season Scrimmage Schedule

August 6th, 2010 by john_roberto11

Coach Mike Boyages recently released the 2010 Pre-Season Scrimmage Schedule.  The Warriors will have four scrimmages prior to opening up the season and all four will be played at Landrigan Field. The Warriors will host some of the best players and teams in Eastern Massachusetts.

Dracut 8/28/2010 @ Landrigan Field

The Warriors will open up the pre-season schedule against the Middies from Dracut.  Dracut plays in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Small Conference and finished with a 9-3 record last season.

The Middies finished #11 in the final Boston Globe Rankings. This year’s Dracut team returns their jack of all trade quarterback, Matt Silva.  Silva was named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic where he passed for 1,745 yards and rushed for another 921 yards.  He threw for 23 touchdowns and ran for another 14 scores.  He was named the 2009 MVC Small Offensive Player of the Year.

The Middies will surely pose a solid test for the Wakefield Defense. Coach Boyages said, “we are excited to have such a high quality team visit us early in the season.  This will be a great test for our program as Dracut has been one of the most successful teams in the state the past few years.”

Triton Regional 8/31/2010 @ Landrigan Field

After a quick few days off, the Warriors will host their second scrimmage against the Vikings from Triton Regional High School.  The Vikings are a member of the Cape Ann League and compete in their large school division.

The Vikings are coming off an impressive 7-4 season.  Year in and year out, Triton is at the top of the standings in the Cape Ann League.

“Triton is located in Byfield and not a lot of people are aware that they play some great football up there” said Coach Boyages.  He followed up by saying, “they had an opening and it fit our schedule, so we look forward to a solid test from them.”

Billerica 9/3/10 @ Landrigan Field

The annual Billerica scrimmage is once again scheduled for the 3rd outing of the pre-season.  The Indians are coming off one of their best seasons where they finished 10-2 and finsined #9 in the final Boston Globe Top 20. They return one of the top players in the state.  Some recruiting analysts are ranking Nick LaSpada as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

LaSpada, as a sophomore last season, passed for 1500 yards and rushed for another 1000.  He completed 20 touchdown passes and rushed in another 8.  He was named a Boston Globe All Scholastic and returns this year as a Junior. Many recruiting outlets have him ranked in the Top 100 players in the nation.

“We played Billerica in a scrimmage setting for as long as I can remember” said Boyages. “Coach Peter Flynn does an excellent job with that program and they have had numerous Division 1 players come through there. LaSpada is certainly going to end up being on of the best they have had and we look forward to competing against the best player in the state.  His athletic ability and arm will certainly be a huge test for our defense.  They also run a lot of similar sets as we do on offense, so it will be good for our younger guys to see it run they way Billerica does.”

Danvers 9/9/10 @ Landrigan Field

The Warriors will host the Danvers Falcons as their final tune up before their season opener. Danvers plays in Northeastern Small Conference and competes against many top notch North Shore programs such as Gloucester.  In recent years they have struggled but last year completed a 6-5 season and look to build on that for this year.

“We will look to run this scrimmage like it is a real game” said Boyages. “We have three pretty decent tests prior to this, so it will be nice to see where we stand before the season opener on the 17th.”
