North Reading, MA–On Saturday, July 2, 2011, close to 70 former Warriors gathered at the Hillview Country Club to honor former coach, Bill Tighe. Almost a decade of former Warriors were represented as the 1957 team organized the event.

The day started off with a video tribute to Coach Tighe and game film from the 1957 season. After some story telling by Charlie Encarnacao-’58, current head coach, Mike Boyages-’76 presented Tighe with a framed #57 Warrior Jersey with the engraving “Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior.” After seeing the film, Boyages joked he though he was the first coach at WHS to run a no huddle offense. Members of the “Fighting ’57” also presented Tighe with a plaque remembering his days as their coach.

Coach Lou Racca, a long time assistant under Tighe, was represented by his wife Marilyn.  The Warrior Club presented a signed ball by all the attendees to her and the Racca Family.

Coach Boyages commented, “it is so great to see so many former Warriors in one room and celebrating someone who meant so much to them.  I looked around and saw one world famous author (Russell Banks), three WHS Hall of Famers, lawyers, businessmen….the list went on.  Coach Tighe touched numerous lives and I am glad to have been a part of this wonderful tribute.”

The proceeds from the event will be used to establish a scholarship with the Citizens Scholarship Foundation in honor of Coach Tighe
