This year has been a tremendous year for Wakefield High School Football. From Varsity to Freshmen, all the teams have carried themselves with skill, sportsmanship, and a genuine love of the game.
This year’s Freshmen team led by Head Coach: Coach Q, has managed to go undefeated thus far, and hope to finish with an undefeated season. It takes more than just individually skilled players to overcome all opponents and leave the season, never having experienced a loss. Coach Q expressed his pride in the team when he explained how the Freshman were able to win every game they played thus far. “These guys play as a team. Both on and off the field, they are a family.” When teams play as a unit, just as the WHS Freshmen team did, it makes them difficult to overcome.
As much as cohesiveness played its part in the games, so did training. Coach Q had worked with the Varsity team for numerous years before becoming Head Coach of the Freshman, and brought the varsity level training to the team. The players welcomed this development with open arms for their advancement in a beloved game. With such a good coaching staff (Head: Coach Q, Assistant Coaches: Chris Roberto, Kevin Flynn, and John Kennedy) and a team of players that Coach Q described as “fun, mature, gentlemen with a love of the game” it is no surprise that the team has done this well.
