Storrs, CT– Martin Hyppolite, a 2009 graduate of Wakefield, is a red shirt freshmen with the University of Connecticut football team. During a recent 62-3 trouncing of Texas Southern in Storrs, CT, Hyppolite recorded a sack from his outside linebacker position for a loss of 10 yards. This was Martin’s first career tackle.
During his playing days at Wakefield, Hyppolite set the single season rushing record with 1,639 yards. He also is the all-time career rushing leader with 2,850 yards. His 29 touchdowns during his senior season set a single season mark for the Warriors.
Originally recruited to play running back for the Huskies, Martin made the switch to the defensive side of the ball this year in order to receive more playing time. UConn has Jordan Todman at tailback who most experts think is a potential Heisman Trophy Candidate.
“We are very proud of Martin” said Coach Boyages. He continued, “it will be exciting watching him play on TV over the next few seasons. Martin comes from a great family and deserves the attention as he is as hard a working player as I have ever coached.”
UConn’s victory versus Texas Southern came after a season opening loss in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the University of Michigan Wolverines in front of 108,000 people.
