Bunty Thakkar Memorial Award

Bunty Thakkar

Bunty Thakkar was a 2001 graduate of Wakefield High School, football alumni and assistant coach. He passed away suddenly on November 4, 2012 at the age of 29. Bunty was a member of Wakefield’s first Super Bowl Championship team in 1999. He attended the University of New Hampshire where he graduated in 2005 with a degree in performing arts. He was an assistant coach for the Wakefield High Freshman Football team for five seasons.

Throughout his life, Bunty faced a constant onslaught of critical health challenges. He met each and every one of these challenges head on while never losing his positive outlook on life. Even during the most serious of health battles, Bunty always kept a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye. On numerous occasions, Bunty would check himself out of the hospital in the morning and attend practice or a game in the afternoon with a big smile on his face. Due to his amazing attitude, at the time of his passing, many never realized how ill he was.

Although his life was cut short at such an early age, Bunty’s positive impact on the lives of his players and fellow coaches was truly immeasurable. Mike Boyages stated, “Bunty taught all of us to appreciate life, laugh, and live for the day regardless of the challenges and roadblocks life throws at you. He displayed wisdom, inspiration, spirit and courage far beyond his years. He always amazed me with his positive spirit, even during his most challenging times. The positive impact he had on the program and I will forever be felt.”
