Lynn, MA– The Warriors first game Friday night was a disappointing loss to the Rams from Lynn Classical. By the end of the half, Wakefield was down 12-7. The game would finish with a final score of Lynn 24 and Wakefield 13.
Though this game was a loss for Wakefield, it did prove an opportunity to show Lynn Classical why we are the Wakefield Warriors. From the first quarter to the final seconds of the game Wakefield trailed the Rams. Throughout this, the Warriors fought for every yard gained and made it anything but easy for Lynn to score. In the end, it was really our own doing, with big loss in yards and failed opportunities to score that left Lynn with the victory.
In the first quarter, Lynn scored on a 30 yard touchdown run, leaving Wakefield behind early on. The Warriors turned up the heat with some big tackles from Senior Andrew Tobey and Sophomore Mark O’Brien limiting Lynn’s rushing attack. Junior Josh Puccio had a solid running game to keep the Warriors close as well.
In the second quarter, Wakefield’s Senior Vinny DeSciscio ran it in for a touchdown and the extra point was scored added by Senior Conner O’Brien to put Wakefield in the lead 7-6. Following a Classical touchdown, Senior Charnjit Singh came up with a fumble recovery for Wakefield and with 8 seconds left on the clock Senior Greg Ledin makes an interception for another nice turn over in Wakefield’s favor.
The third quarter started off with a Lynn touchdown, leaving the score at 18-7 in favor of the home team. Once again Wakefield answered this with some big plays, including a 13 yard pass from Senior Conner O’Brien to Sophomore Dan Cardillo.
Wakefield scored early in the fourth quarter with a 7 yard touchdown pass to Senior Vinny DeSciscio, putting the score at 18-13 in favor of the home team. On the kickoff, Sophmores Alec Brown and Mark O’Brien make a big tackle to stop Lynn’s return. Wakefield Senior Anthony Fabiano then made a huge play stripping the ball from a Lynn runner to put the ball back in Wakefield hands. To end the game, Lynn scored a 44 yard touchdown run, putting up a final score of 23 -13.
The Warriors play host to the Minutemen of Lexington Friday Night under the lights at Landrigan Field. Game time is set for 7pm.
